About Sandra

Born in Bristol, UK of Jamaican parents, Sandra grew up listening to the likes of Aretha Franklin, Sade, Andrae Crouch etc. Her earliest memories of singing and songwriting were when she was 12 years old, performing in church, at many conferences/festivals and fronting two bands.

In Sandra Godley, we see the embodiment of all the things in a multi award winning diva we hold dear. Beautiful, yet somehow humble, Sandra Godley is so wonderfully talented that she has evolved from being just a singer/songwriter, to being a stylish, multi-genre songstress comfortable in her intimate style whether it be before 100 or an arena of 80,000 people or a crowd of 100,000 at the Godiva Festival which she has performed at 4 times.

Easily adapting to all of contemporary black music’s offerings, Godley has performed contemporary, gospel, disco, house, soul, and R & B effortlessly. By herself, Sandra Godley has evolved from the embodiment of the dance-diva to an elegant songstress. Always creative and spontaneous, Godley’s use of powerhouse vocals in conjunction with the ability of holding an audience spellbound as she solos with an acoustic guitar, has taken her music to higher levels.

Sandra has performed on many television and radio networks including BBC, Sky & US channels, The House of Commons, UK’s The Roundhouse, CBS and Manchester Arenas to name but a few. With 4 (largely self-penned) albums already under her belt, Sandra’s passion as a singer, songwriter, gifted communicator, and entertainer is contagious to anyone who meets her.

Sandra recorded her third album (Miracle) in 2013 in Nashville, which earned her a prestigious MOBO nomination for Best Gospel Artist. She’s gone on to receive a Lifetime Achievement in Music Award from Ladies First Professional Network and many other awards including Best International Song at the GMA Italy awards. Her song ‘Grateful’ reached No 21 in the iTunes RnB charts.

She released her 4th album Reflections in 2019 and in August 2021 released 'My Darling' in memory of her aunt who passed away due to Covid. Donations from the track went to 3 charities: Surviving Bereavement, Molly Olly's Wishes and MIND.

Inspired by the work of Prince Harry, Sandra put together a unique choir of 26 people with physical/mental challenges to perform her self-pinned wedding song The Big Love Song as a gift for the Prince and Meghan Markle. Auditions were held at the prestigious Coventry Cathedral. The journey of the choir was so inspiring that BBC Worldwide created a 30minute documentary which went viral. She received a letter from Prince Harry to say thank you, which she read out live on BBC’s The One Show.

To complement her passion for music, she has held positions as Trustee/Director/Board Member of various organizations and is currently a Trustee for Highly Sprung, the UK’s leading Physical Theatre, an Ambassador for AtaLoss.org & The Belgrade Theatre and is also a Partner for Ladies First Professional Network.  In 2019, she was commissioned to write her first immersive sound installation for Warwick University, UK (I:DNA) and in 2022, she was commissioned by Coventry City of Culture to write a runway song for Haus of Kraft Fashion show followed by a performance at the Assembly Gardens.

She is currently a Broadcaster for BBC CWR presenting shows: Upbeat and The Sunday Breakfast show. One of her proudest shared moments as a Trustee of Radio Plus was to receive a prestigious Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.

As a Trustee and Humanitarian of Feed the Hungry, she travelled internationally, spreading a positive message of hope.

She’s recently hosted 5 TV shows/ round table discussions for TBN, will host Mercy Ship’s Christmas TV show & perform in a barn in Tennessee, thanks to the Lanning Family!
